When a public switched telephone network (PSTN) subscriber (28) is occupying their telephone link to connect a personal computer to a computer network, the method provides automatic redirection of an incoming call to said telephone link to a subscriber proxy (38) connected to the PSTN (30) for producing audio interaction with the caller. The subscriber proxy is also connected to said computer network and is capable of sending and receiving messages over said computer network to the subscriber's computer thereby providing the subscriber with a capability to receive notification on said computer of the PSTN call attempt. Optionally, the subscriber has a further capability to interact with said computer to operate the proxy to control and interact with the incoming voice telephone call while the subscriber continues to occupy their telephone link connecting their computer to the computer network.
Lorsque l'abonné (28) d'un réseau téléphonique public commuté (RTPC) occupe sa liaison téléphonique pour se connecter à un ordinateur personnel ou à un réseau d'ordinateur, le procédé de la présente invention assure le réacheminement automatique d'un appel entrant sur ladite liaison téléphonique en direction d'un serveur mandataire (dit "serveur proxy") (38) de l'abonné relié au RTPC de façon à produire une interaction audio avec l'appelant. Le serveur mandataire de l'abonné est également relié audit réseau d'ordinateurs et il est capable d'envoyer et de recevoir des messages sur ce réseau d'ordinateurs à destination de l'ordinateur de l'abonné, offrant ainsi à l'abonné la possibilité de recevoir une notification sur ledit ordinateur de la tentative d'appel du RTPC. Eventuellement, l'abonné a aussi la possibilité d'agir sur ledit ordinateur pour faire fonctionner son serveur mandataire de façon à réguler l'appel téléphonique vocal entrant et à agir sur cet appel, tout en continuant à occuper la liaison téléphonique reliant son ordinateur au réseau d'ordinateurs.
