A system and method for valuating weather-based financial instruments including weather futures, options, swaps, and the like. The system includes weather forecast, weather history, and financial databases. Also included in the system is a central processing trading server that is accessible via a plurality of internal and external workstations. The workstations provide a graphical user interface for users to enter a series of inputs and receive information (i.e., output) concerning a financial instrument. The method involves collecting the series of inputs--start date, maturity date, geographic location(s), risk-free rate, and base weather condition--affecting the value of the financial instrument and applying a pricing model modified to account for weather.
L'invention se rapporte à un système et à un procédé d'évaluation d'instruments financiers dépendants de la météorologie et notamment de contrats à terme normalisés, d'options, d'échanges financiers et analogues dépendants de la météorologie. Ledit système comporte des prévisions météorologiques, des données climatologiques et des bases de données financières. Il comporte également un serveur boursier de traitement central qui est accessible par l'intermédiaire d'une pluralité de postes de travail internes et externes. Ces postes de travail fournissent une interface utilisateur graphique qui permet aux utilisateurs d'entrer une série de données et de recevoir des informations (c'est à dire des sorties) relatives à un instrument financier. Ledit procédé consiste à recueillir la séquence des entrées date de début, date d'exigibilité, emplacement(s) géographique(s), taux hors risque et situation météorologique de base qui affectent la valeur de l'instrument financier et à appliquer un modèle de fixation de prix modifié de manière à tenir compte des données météorologiques.
