Methods and apparatus for communicating different size coded blocks of information in a wireless sectorized communications cell are described. Information may be categorized and formed into large, medium, and small coded blocks which may include error correction code bits based on the number of bits representing the information, time criticality of the information, and tolerable level of interference. Channels with full tone overlap between adjacent sectors, channels with no tone overlap between adjacent sectors, and channels with partial tone overlap between adjacent sectors are used for different size blocks. Some tones corresponding to a channel with less than full tone overlap are left unused in an adjacent sector thereby achieving less than full transmission tone overlap. Large transmission blocks are transmitted using full tone overlap channels; medium transmission blocks are transmitted using partial tone overlap channels; small transmission blocks are transmitted without using transmission tone overlap in adjacent sectors.

L'invention concerne des procédés et un appareil pour communiquer des blocs d'informations codés de tailles différentes dans une cellule de communication sectorisée sans fil. Les informations peuvent être catégorisées et formées sous forme de blocs codés grands, moyens et petits qui peuvent comprendre des bits de code de correction d'erreur en fonction du nombre de bits représentant les informations, de la criticité temporelle des informations et du niveau tolérable d'interférence. Des canaux avec un chevauchement tonal complet entre des secteurs adjacents, des canaux sans chevauchement tonal entre des secteurs adjacents et des canaux avec un chevauchement tonal partiel entre des secteurs adjacents sont utilisés pour des blocs de différentes tailles. Certains tons correspondant à un canal avec moins que le chevauchement tonal complet ne sont pas utilisés dans un secteur adjacent obtenant ainsi moins que le chevauchement tonal de transmission complet. De grands blocs de transmission sont transmis en utilisant des canaux de chevauchement tonal complet; des blocs de transmission moyens sont transmis en utilisant des canaux de chevauchement tonal partiel; de petits blocs de transmission sont transmis sans utiliser de chevauchement tonal de transmission dans des secteurs adjacents.
