The present invention relates to a system (10) and method for identifying the position of cellular telephones (12) in a geographical area served by a mobile telephony network (14). The system (10) comprises a mobile location center (15) capable of analyzing information about the electromagnetic (RF) field transmitted by cellular telephones (12) with reference information including both RF information and probabilistic information associated with the morphology of the geographical area. The method involves assigning different weights to the location of cellular telephones (12) as a function of probabilistic reference information, and thus makes it possible to use statistical methods for resolving situations of ambiguity in locating cellular telephones which would otherwise be resolved in purely random fashion.
Cette invention se rapporte à un système (10) et à un procédé servant à identifier la position de téléphones cellulaires (12) dans une zone géographique desservie par un réseau de téléphonie mobile. Ce système (10) comprend un central d'enregistrement de positions mobiles (15) capable d'analyser des informations sur le champ électromagnétique (RF) transmis par les téléphones cellulaires (12) avec des informations de référence contenant à la fois des informations RF et des informations probabilistes associées à la morphologie de la zone géographique en question. Ce procédé consiste à attribuer différentes pondérations à la position des téléphones cellulaires (12) en fonction d'informations de référence probabilistes et, ainsi, de rendre possible l'utilisation, dans la localisation des téléphones cellulaires, de méthodes statistiques pour résoudre les situations d'ambiguïté qui n'auraient autrement été résolues que de façon purement aléatoire.
