Cobalt catalysts, and processes employing these inventive catalysts, for hydrocarbon synthesis. The inventive catalyst comprises cobalt on an alumina support and is not promoted with any noble or near noble metals. In one aspect of the invention, the alumina support preferably includes a dopant in an amount effective for increasing the activity of the inventive catalyst. The dopant is preferably a titanium dopant. In another aspect of the invention, the cobalt catalyst is preferably reduced in the presence of hydrogen at a water vapor partial pressure effective to increase the activity of the cobalt catalyst for hydrocarbon synthesis. The water vapor partial pressure is preferably in the range of from 0 to about 0.1 atmospheres.
L'invention concerne des catalyseurs à base de cobalt, ainsi que des procédés mettant en oeuvre ces catalyseurs, utiles dans la synthèse d'hydrocarbures. Le catalyseur de l'invention comprend du cobalt sur support d'alumine et il n'est pas activé par un quelconque métal précieux ou presque précieux. Dans un aspect de l'invention, le support d'alumine comprend préférablement un dopant en quantité suffisamment efficace pour augmenter l'activité du catalyseur de l'invention. De préférence, ce dopant est un dopant au titane. Dans un autre aspect de l'invention, on réduit le catalyseur à base de cobalt, en présence d'hydrogène, à une pression partielle de vapeur d'eau suffisamment efficace pour augmenter l'activité du catalyseur à base de cobalt, dans la synthèse d'hydrocarbures. La pression partielle de la vapeur d'eau est, de préférence, comprise entre 0 et 0,1 atmosphère environ.
