ABSTRACT This invention discloses a microorganism, preferably a bacterium, containing in its genome a first DNA sequence encoding a Bacillus thuringiensis endotoxin and a second DNA sequence encoding a compound which either acts as a photoprotectant or which produces a photoprotectant, the first and second DNA sequences being capable of expression in the microorganism. The photoprotectant is designed to protect either the microorganism itself or the endotoxin produced by the microorganism from photodegredation. The invention also covers insecticidal compositions containing the microorganism or the products thereof and the use of the insecticidal composition for controlling insects.
