Disclosed is an article having a structured surface, wherein the structured surface has protuberances having an average height of 50 nm to 10 µm and an average spacing of 50 nm to 10 µm and the structured surface is made of a material which is hydrophobic to such an extent that the material has, when unstructured, a surface energy of 10 to 20 mN/m. The surface has a large contact angle with water, is hardly wetted by water and therefore has a self-cleaning effect. Also disclosed are processes for the production of the article.
