MELT PROCESSING OF POLYMER BLENDS WITH COMPOSITE MULTIPHASE MORPHOLOGY INVENTORS: Basil D. Favis Claude Lavallée Abstract of the Disclosure Thermoplastic polymer blends having composite multiphase morphology i.e. a matrix, a dispersed phase and discrete occlusions within the dispersed phase, can be obtained by: i) melt mixing an amount of the first polymer with a second polymer, ii) adding to the resulting dispersion a sufficient quantity of a third polymer to induce a phase inversion, and iii) controlled mixing of the blend of ii). The process is effective for a variety of incompatible and compatibilized polymer blends.
