- 1 - ABSTRACT Metal screen material obtained by photoetching, process for forming starting material terefor and etching process. Described is a metal screen material obtained by photoetching having a ratio of depth etching to lateral etching between 1,5 and 5, the etching factor. Also is described a process for producing a metal starting material for manufacturing such screen material by photoetching in which the starting material is formed by electrodeposition of metal from a bath comprising one or more substances which influence the etching factor towards higher values. In order to reach a high etching factor the concentration of the relevant substance in the deposit is made to increase oppositely to the direction of later etching. Suitable substances are inter alia class I and class II brighteners.
