A method of recycling waste gypsum wallboard into a light weight composite building material. The wallboard is ground into small pieces and mixed with sand, cement and water. For a material that floats, sand is omitted. For additional buoyancy, styrofoam may be added. Broken glass may be substituted for the sand in the mixture thereby providing a method of recycling both glass and drywall together into a composite building material. In addition a composite building material, manufactured from used waste gypsum wallboard, is provided.
