Chrysotile or serpentine containing chrysotile is treated to convert the chrysotile contained therein into a non-asbestos material. The non-asbestos material is a useful material which can be safely reclaimed and used. It is effective from the standpoint of an environmental measure. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] A curable composition characterized by at least containing reinforcing fibers and porous fibrous amorphous silica which is obtained by decomposing chrysotile or chrysotile-containing serpentine with an acid to substantially eliminate the influence of the asbestos on the living body. The curable composition preferably contains a surfactant and a thickener and/or a filler and/or a colorant. It preferably contains an air-hardening material and/or hydraulic material and a thickener. The composition preferably comprises 15-100% porous fibrous amorphous silica obtained by decomposing chrysotile or chrysotile-containing serpentine with an acid, 0-75% slaked lime, 0-3% thickener, and 0-10% pulp.
On traite du chrysotile ou de la serpentine contenant du chrysotile pour convertir le chrysotile contenu dans ceux-ci en matière qui n'est pas de l'amiante. La matière qui n'est pas de l'amiante est une matière utile qui peut être utilisée et recyclée en toute sécurité. Elle est efficace du point de vue d'une mesure environnementale. L'invention concerne une composition durcissable caractérisée en ce qu'elle contient au moins des fibres renforçantes et de la silice amorphe fibreuse poreuse qu'on obtient par décomposition de chrysotile ou de serpentine contenant du chrysotile avec un acide pour éliminer en grande partie l'influence de l'amiante sur le corps vivant. La composition durcissable contient de préférence un tensioactif et un épaississant et/ou une charge et/ou un colorant. Elle contient de préférence une matière durcissant à l'air et/ou une matière hydraulique et un épaississant. La composition comprend de préférence 15-100 % de silice amorphe fibreuse poreuse obtenue par décomposition de chrysotile ou de serpentine contenant du chrysotile avec un acide, 0-75 % de chaux éteinte, 0-3 % d'épaississant et 0-10 % de pulpe.
