An ethylene polymer having small values of Mw/Mn and Mz/Mw, a small proportion of long-chain branches and a high swell ratio and a process for preparing the polymer are disclosed. A solid titanium catalyst component obtained by initially contacting a solid titanium composite containing titanium, magnesium, halogen and a compound having at least two ether linkages present through plural atoms with an organometallic compound and then contacting the resulting product with oxygen is further disclosed. An ethylene polymerization catalyst comprising the above catalyst component and an organometallic compound catalyst component is furthermore disclosed. The ethylene polymer is excellent in moldability, and from this polymer, a molded article which is excellent in rigidity and impact resistance and free from poor appearance can be obtained. By the use of the ethylene polymerization catalyst, an ethylene polymer having excellent properties as mentioned above can be obtained.

On divulgue un polymère d'éthylène ayant de faibles valeurs de Mw/Mn et de Mz/Mw, une faible proportion de ramifications à longue chaîne et un rapport de gonflement élevé ainsi qu'un procédé pour préparer ce polymère. On divulgue également un constituant qui est un catalyseur de titane en phase solide obtenu en mettant d'abord en contact un composite de titane en phase solide contenant du titane, du magnésium, un halogène et un composé ayant au moins deux ponts éther espacés de plusieurs atomes avec un composé organométallique, puis en mettant en contact le produit obtenu avec de l'oxygène. On divulgue aussi un catalyseur de polymérisation de l'éthylène comprenant le constituant catalyseur ci-dessus et un constituant catalyseur à base de composé organométallique. Le polymère d'éthylène possède une excellente aptitude au moulage et on peut obtenir à partir de ce polymère un article moulé excellent du point de vue de la rigidité, de la résistance aux chocs et de l'apparence. L'utilisation du catalyseur de polymérisation de l'éthylène permet d'obtenir un polymère d'éthylène ayant les excellentes propriétés mentionnées ci-dessus.
