A cutting element for a string lawn trimmer. The cutting element comprises a length of multiple strand cable, especially multiple strand twisted steel wire, having a connector at one end thereof adapted to attach the wire to the lawn trimmer. The length of cable has a plurality of spaced apart nodules thereon. Alternatively, the cutting element has an elongated cutting shaft, a tapered plug and a flange. Adapters for the use of the cutting elements on lawn trimmers are also provided.
