A fault detection apparatus for use in an electrical distribution network to distinguish normal network operations from various network faults. Pre-event and post-event signal patterns are compared and analysed to produce an event characteristic which distinguishes the faulted feeder and the faulted phase. The characteristic also allows for discrimination between the various events and controls network response accordingly.

L'invention concerne un appareil de détection de pannes destiné à être utilisé dans un réseau de distribution d'électricité afin de distinguer les fonctionnements de réseau normaux des diverses pannes de réseau. Des configurations de signaux pré-évènements et post-évènements sont comparées et analysées afin de produire une caractéristique d'évènements distinguant une ligne d'alimentation défaillante d'une phase défaillante. La caractéristique permet également de distinguer les divers évènements et de gérer en conséquence la réponse du réseau.
