The invention relates to refractory materials particularly recycled waste material removed from furnace linings. Spent furnace linings have contaminants making the material unsuited to further use in a brick or compact making batch. The object of the invention is to provide an economic treatment process rendering such spent furnace lining materials suitable for further use, which objective is met by a process for the treatment of material reclaimed from a refractory lining after the end of its useful life in which superheated steam is applied to particulate feedstock material formed from the reclaimed material whilst maintaining the feedstock material at an elevated temperature in a suitable vessel. The superheated steam may be introduced into a flow of particulate feedstock material, such as, for example, by injecting the superheated steam into the particulate material.
L'invention a trait à des matières réfractaires, en particulier des déchets recyclés récupérés de garnitures de fours. Les garnitures usées renferment des contaminants qui rendent impropre l'utilisation des matières pour faire des briques ou un autre produit compact. L'invention présente donc une méthode de traitement économique des garnitures usées de four pour s'en servir à d'autres fins. Selon cette méthode de traitement des matières récupérées des garnitures de four à la fin de leur cycle de vie utile, une vapeur surchauffée est appliquée à une charge d'alimentation particulaire obtenue de matières recyclées et cette charge est maintenue à une température élevée dans un récipient approprié. La vapeur surchauffée peut être introduite par injection dans un écoulement de charge d'alimentation particulaire.
