A prosthetic temporomandibular joint prosthesis (1) wherein the condylar portion (3) is attached to the mandible through a plate shaped in such a manner that the lateral/inferior edge of the plate is about parallel to the lateral/inferior aspect of the mandible. The devices used by the taught method of replacement result in minimal surgery in areas adjacent to major nerves and arteries.
