The modular spring elements are arranged in parallel rows with adjacent spring elements of each row having alternatingly aligned straight center sections and adjacent modular elements within each row having a space between the curved end sections of the elements. The curved end sections of the modular spring elements are snap- fitted into upwardly open offset hooks in transverse wires of the wire grid.
