A process is provided for preparing ammonium glyphosate powder suitable for downstream processing by extrusion to make a granular formulation comprising ammonium glyphosate and surfactant. The process comprises (a) mixing (i) solid partic-ulate glyphosate acid, (ii) water in an amount of about 0.5 to about 3 parts by weight per part by weight of glyphosate acid, and (iii) a base that supplies ammonium cations, in an amount of about 0.8 to about 1.25 mole equivalents of ammonia per mole of glyphosate acid, to form an aqueous reaction medium; (b) allowing the glyphosate acid to react with the base in the reaction medium to form a reaction product comprising a concentrated aqueous solution of ammonium glyphosate; (c) drying the reaction product, for example with a drum dryer, to recover a particulate solid; and (d) accelerating the particulate solid in a turbulent high-velocity gas stream, for example in a jet mill, to form by particle-particle attrition an ammonium glyphosate powder having a mean particle size of about 5 to about 20 µm.
L'invention concerne un procédé de préparation de poudre de glysophate d'ammonium pouvant subir un traitement en aval par extrusion, de sorte qu'une préparation granulaire comprenant du glysophate d'ammonium et un tensioactif soit produite. Ledit procédé consiste à : (a) mélanger (i) de l'acide de glysophate particulaire solide, (ii) de l'eau à raison d'environ 0,5 à environ 3 parties en poids par rapport au poids d'acide de glysophate, et (iii) une base fournissant des cations ammonium, à raison d'environ 0,8 à environ 1,25 équivalents en mole d'ammoniac par mole d'acide de glysophate, de manière qu'un milieu réactionnel aqueux soit formé ; (b) laisser l'acide glysophate réagir avec la base dans le milieu réactionnel, de manière qu'un produit réactionnel comprenant une solution aqueuse concentrée de glysophate d'ammonium soit formé ; (c) sécher le produit réactionnel, par exemple au moyen d'un séchoir à tambour, de manière qu'un solide particulaire soit récupéré ; et (d) accélérer le solide particulaire dans un courant de gaz turbulent à grande vitesse, par exemple dans un broyeur à jets, de manière qu'une poudre de glysophate d'ammonium possédant une taille de particules moyenne d'environ 20 mu m soit formée par attrition, particule par particule.
