A modular connector system for interconnecting printed circuit boards includes a first connector having an insulative housing supporting an array of blade- shaped contacts and a second connector having a complementary array of beam- shaped contacts. Preferably, each beam-shaped contact includes substantially independent coplanar beams which, in use, contact a common surface of a respective blade-shaped contact to provide multiple points of contact. The second connector includes a plurality of modules stacked in parallel. Each module includes a shield plate having an insulative receptacle attached at one end and a row of signal conductors, each having a beam-shaped contact at one end. Each insulative receptacle has a first side in which cavities are provided to receive the beam-shaped contacts of the signal conductor. Each insulative receptacle further includes a second, opposite side in which holes are formed in substantial alignment with the cavities for receiving the blade- shaped contacts of the first connector.
L'invention concerne un système connecteur modulaire pour connecter des plaquettes de circuits imprimés. Ce système comprend un premier connecteur comportant un boîtier isolant supportant un ensemble de contacts en forme de lames, et un deuxième connecteur possèdent un ensemble complémentaire de contacts en forme de faisceaux. De préférence, chaque contact en forme de faisceau comprend des faisceaux coplanaires sensiblement indépendants qui, en service, entrent en contact avec une surface commune d'un contact correspondant en forme de lame pour fournir plusieurs points de contact. Le deuxième connecteur comprend plusieurs modules empilés en parallèle. Chaque module comprend une plaque de protection comportant un réceptacle isolant fixé à une extrémité et une rangée de conducteurs de signaux possédant chacun un contact en forme de faisceau à une extrémité. Chaque réceptacle isolant comporte un premier côté dans lequel sont prévues des cavités pour recevoir les contacts en forme de faisceau du conducteur de signaux. Chaque réceptacle isolant comprend, en outre, un deuxième côté opposé dans lequel des trous sont formés sensiblement en alignement avec les cavités pour recevoir les contacts en forme de lames du premier connecteur.
