A prosthetic repair fabric and method for repairing an inguinal hernia in the inguinal canal. The prosthesis (20) including a layer of mesh fabric (22) that is susceptible to the formations of adhesions with sensitive tissue and organs, and a barrier layer (24) that inhibits the formation of adhesions with sensitive tissue and organs. The mesh fabric including a medial section (26) and a lateral section (28) that are configured to be positioned adjacent the medial corner and the lateral end of the inguinal canal, respectively, when the prosthesis is placed in the inguinal canal to repair the defect. The barrier layer (24) is positioned on the mesh fabric to inhibit the formation of adhesions between the spermatic cord and the mesh fabric. At least a portion of the lateral section (28) of the mesh fabric (22) is free of the barrier layer on both of its sides to promote enhanced tissue ingrowth therein. The barrier layer may include at least one flap (40) that is to be folded through the mesh fabric to isolate the spermatic cord from internal edges of the fabric when the spermatic cord is routed through the prothesis.
L'invention concerne un matériau prothétique de réparation à mailles et un procédé permettant de réparer une hernie inguinale dans le canal inguinal. Ladite prothèse (20) comprend une couche de mailles (22) chirurgicales capable d'empêcher la formation d'adhésions avec les tissus et les organes sensibles ; et une couche (24) intermédiaire qui empêche la formation d'adhésion avec les tissus et les organes sensibles. Ledit matériau en mailles chirurgicales comprend une section (26) médiane et une section (28) latérale conçues pour être contiguës à l'arrondi médian et à l'extrémité latérale du canal inguinal, respectivement, lorsque ladite prothèse est placée dans le canal inguinal afin de réparer l'anomalie. La couche (24) intermédiaire est placée sur le matériau en mailles chirurgicales de manière à empêcher la formation des adhésions entre le cordon spermatique et le matériau en mailles chirurgicales. Une partie au moins de la section (28) latérale dudit matériau (22) n'est pas recouverte par la couche intermédiaire, et ce, des deux côtés, de manière à favoriser une meilleure superposition des tissus. Ladite couche intermédiaire comprend au moins un volet (40) conçu pour être replié à travers le matériau en mailles chirurgicales de manière à isoler le cordon spermatique des bords intérieurs dudit matériau, lorsque le cordon spermatique passe à travers la prothèse.
