The present invention provides an improved method of operation for automated banking machines and systems. The present invention provides a method of using operating rules at the processor of an automated banking machine to select an available and capable physical transaction function device, such as a display screen, touch screen, keyboard, dispenser mechanism, printer mechanism, or card reader, to carry out a function in a banking transaction. The operating rules correspond to the sequences of use of physical transaction function devices in banking transactions so that the automated banking machine may perform transactions at a rapid pace.
