This invention relates to feeding carded fiber to an airlay (11) and particularly to combining carding technology with airlay technology. In the invention, a carding machine portion (12) is arranged to card fiber while a disperser roll (50) in the airlay portion picks the individualized carded fibers from a toothed roll (40, 48) and centrifugally doffs them into an airstream. By this invention, airlays will be able to handle longer fiber lenghts which conventional airlay equipment is unable to handle or satisfactorily open up. The invention may conversely be viewed as an improved process for doffing fiber from a carding machine and particularly to centrifugally doffing fiber from a carding machine.

Cette invention se rapporte à l'alimentation en fibre cardée d'un dispositif à jet d'air (11) et notamment à la combinaison des technologies de séparation des fibres par cardage et par jet d'air. Selon cette invention, une partie d'une cardeuse (12) est agencée de façon à carder des fibres tandis qu'un rouleau disperseur (50) de la partie fonctionnant à jet d'air prélève les fibres cardées individualisées en provenance d'un rouleau dentelé (40, 48) et les peigne par centrifugation à l'intérieur du courant d'air. Les dispositifs à jet d'air de cette invention peuvent traiter des fibres de longueur plus importante que les équipements classiques à jet d'air qui ne sont pas capables de traiter ou d'ouvrir la fibre de manière satisfaisante. En outre, cette invention peut être considérée comme un procédé perfectionné de peignage de la fibre issue d'une cardeuse et notamment de peignage par centrifugation de ladite fibre.
