The present invention provides a method for the diagnosis of heart failure in a mammalian subject. The level of urotensin in a sample of bodily fluid from the subject is measured and compared to reference levels typically found in the said bodily fluid of a subject which are indicative of the absence of heart failure. An elevated level of urotensin is indicative of heart failure.

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de diagnostiquer une insuffisance cardiaque chez un mammifère. On mesure le niveau de l'urotensine dans un échantillon de fluide corporel prélevé chez le patient et on le compare à des niveaux témoins d'ordinaire prélevés dans ledit fluide corporel chez un sujet qui indiquent l'absence d'insuffisance cardiaque. Un niveau d'urotensine élevé indique une insuffisance cardiaque.
