A combination wall anchor and support fastener comprises a wall anchor (A) adapted to be securely installed in a support structure such as a wall or a ceiling, and a support fastener (F, F') having an elongated member or stem (26) and a proximal support system (32). The wall anchor (A) defines an inner bore (20) delimited by an inner wall (24). The elongated member or stem (26) is translationally insertable in the inner bore (20). A locking mechanism (22, 30/30') is provided for locking the elongated member (26) to the inner wall (24) upon sufficient translational insertion of the elongated member (26) in the inner bore (20). Therefore, with the wall anchor (A) secured to the support structure, the support fastener (F, F') can be inserted in the wall anchor (A) and locked thereto with the support system (32) being usable for suspending, mounting, attaching, etc., an item to the support structure. The locking mechanism (22, 30/30') may comprise a notch or recess (22) which is defined in the inner wall (24) and at least one tooth (30/30') protruding sideways from the stem (26). Typically, a number of axially spaced and aligned teeth (30/30') are provided on the outside of the stem (26), with each tooth (30/30') being adapted for engagement in the recess (22) such that various locked relative positions can be obtained between the wall anchor (A) and the support fastener (F, F'). The locking mechanism (22, 30/30') can be disengaged, for instance, by rotating the support fastener (F, F') with respect to the wall anchor (A) such that the relevant tooth (30/30') is rotated out of the recess (22) thereby allowing for the support fastener (F, F') to be translationally withdrawn from the wall anchor (A).
