A lost core process is disclosed for removing an overmoulded lost core from within a hollow product which has been overmoulded over the core, wherein the core is melted and removed by a vapour contact method. Heat is transferred to the core by condensation of vapour of a heat transfer fluid, which has a boiling point higher than the melting point of the core and lower than the melting point of the product. The heat of condensation transferred to the core by the vaporized heat transfer fluid melts the core which then flows from the hollow part. This lost core process allows the manufacture of high quality surfaces on the insides of hollow parts, while permitting close wall tolerances to be maintained, and may be used to manufacture complex parts such as water pump housings and intake manifolds.

Cette invention concerne un procédé de moulage à modèle perdu et la technique d'extraction du modèle du produit creux obtenu par ce procédé. Le modèle est fondu et extrait par mise en contact avec de la vapeur. La chaleur est transférée au modèle par condensation de la vapeur d'un fluide caloriporteur dont le point d'ébullition est supérieur au point de fusion du modèle mais inférieur à celui du produit moulé. La chaleur de condensation dégagée par le fluide caloriporteur vaporisé fait fondre le modèle qui s'écoule ainsi à l'extérieur du produit creux. Ce procédé donne des produits creux à état de surface intérieur de haute qualité à précision dimensionelle améliorée et permet de fabriquer des pièces complexes telles que corps de pompe à eau et collecteurs d'admission.
