A process is disclosed for the production of vinyl acetate by reaction of ethylene, oxygen and acetic acid as reactants comprising contacting said reactants and a non-halogen containing copper compound with a catalyst comprising a porous support on the porous surfaces of which is deposited catalytically effective amounts of metallic palladium, gold and copper. During the process to prepare vinyl acetate, a stream of alkali metal acetate is preferably passed over the catalyst.

On décrit un procédé qui permet de produire de l'acétate de vinyle par réaction en utilisant comme réactifs de l'éthylène, de l'oxygène et un acide acétique. Le procédé consiste à mettre ces réactifs et un composé du cuivre non halogéné au contact d'un catalyseur comprenant un support poreux sur les surfaces poreuses duquel on dépose des quantités catalytiquement efficaces de palladium métallique, d'or et de cuivre. Pendant le processus de préparation de l'acétate de vinyle, un circuit d'acétate de métal alcalin est, de préférence, passé au-dessus du catalyseur. Ce processus permet d'obtenir une plus grande sélectivité et productivité d'acétate de vinyle dues à la faible sélectivité de CO2 pendant la durée de vie du catalyseur.
