A combustor method and apparatus is provided. The method utilizes flameless combustion with one or more of three improvements to enhance ignition of the flameless combustor. A catalytic surface can be provided within a combustion chamber to provide flameless combustion at least in the vicinity of the catalytic surface at a temperature that is much lower than the autoignition temperature of fuel in air without the presence of the catalytic surface. Nitrous oxide or supplemental oxygen may also be used as an oxidant either instead of air or with air to reduce ignition temperatures. Further, electrical energy can be passed through the fuel conduit, raising the temperature of the conduit to a temperature above which the fuel will ignite when combined with the oxidant.
L'invention se rapporte à un procédé et à un appareil de combustion. Le procédé met en oeuvre un système de combustion sans flamme à l'aide d'au moins une des trois améliorations visant à améliorer le processus d'allumage de l'appareil de combustion sans flamme. Une surface catalytique peut être ménagée à l'intérieur d'une chambre de combustion afin que cette combustion sans flamme se fasse au moins à proximité de la surface catalytique à une température bien inférieure à la température d'allumage spontané du combustible dans l'air sans la présence de la surface catalytique. De l'oxyde azoté ou de l'oxygène supplémentaire peuvent également être utilisés comme oxydant soit à la place de l'air, soit avec l'air, afin de faire baisser les températures d'allumage. Il est également possible de faire passer de l'énergie électrique dans le conduit de combustible, la température du conduit s'élevant alors à une température au-dessus de laquelle le combustible prend feu lorsqu'il est combiné à l'oxydant.
