The present invention relates to the diagnosis of the risk of experiencing a cardiovascular complication in the context of treatment with erythropoiesis stimulating agents (ESAs) such as erythropoetin and derivatives thereof, particularly in the context of anemia. More particularly, the invention provides a method for diagnosing the risk of a patient of experiencing a cardiovascular complication as a consequence of future medication with an erythropoiesis stimulating agent (ESA), comprising the steps of (a) measuring the level of a BNP -type peptide in a sample of the patient, (b) diagnosing said risk by comparing the measured level of the BNP -type peptide to at least one reference level. The BNP -type peptide may for example be brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) or the N-terminal fragment of BNP, NT-proBNP. The cardiovascular complication may include complications such as stroke, transient cerebral ischemic attack, acute coronary syndrome, myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure etc.. Notably, the present invention also relates to dosages of ESA medication which do not cause hyperviscosity.
La présente invention concerne le diagnostic du risque de contracter une complication cardiovasculaire dans le contexte d'un traitement par des agents de stimulation d'érythropoïèse (ESA) tels que l'érythropoïétine et ses dérivés, particulièrement dans le contexte de l'anémie. Plus particulièrement, l'invention concerne un procédé pour diagnostiquer le risque qu'un patient ne contracte une complication cardiovasculaire suite conséquence à une future médication par un agent de stimulation d'érythropoïèse (ESA), ledit procédé comportant les étapes consistant à (a) mesurer le taux de peptide de type BNP dans un échantillon du patient, (b) diagnostiquer ledit risque par comparaison du taux mesuré de peptide de type BNP à au moins un taux de référence. Le peptide de type BNP peut par exemple être un peptide natriurétique cérébral (BNP) ou le fragment N-terminal du BNP, le NT-proBNP. La complication cardiovasculaire peut inclure des complications telles que l'attaque, l'attaque ischémique cérébrale transitoire, le syndrome coronaire aigu, l'infarctus du myocarde, l'insuffisance cardiaque congestive, etc. Notamment, la présente invention concerne également des dosages de médication par l'ESA qui n'entraînent pas d'hyperviscosité.
