ABSTRACT TITLE: IMPROVEMENTS IN CONTAINER HANDLING EQUIPMENT A container handling system is provided which comprises a lever arm pivotally mounted to a support such as a transport vehicle, a jib carried by the lever arm, a hook or bail attached to the jib adapted to engage a corresponding bail or hook on an upper end part of a container, and an auxiliary bail or hook pivotally mounted on the jib adjacent its free end. Such a handling system is capable of lifting different types of containers onto a transport vehicle. For instance, a container having a bail on its upper end part can be lifted by actuation of an hydraulic or pneumatic mechanism to move the lever arm about its pivotal mounting so that the hook engages with the bail on the upper end part of the container, and a container having a hook on a lower end part thereof can be lifted by moving the auxiliary bail into engagement with the hook on the container.
