In a double bar locking system it is known that security is maximized compared to the single bar locking system, since the double bars prohibit entry when attempts of removing the hinge pins from the exterior side of a door or forcing a door fail. However, this does not prevent the determined burglar to enter the premises through a window and then to open the secured door from the inside allowing more items to be stolen and easing the escape. It is the object of this invention to prevent this situation. The present invention provides a double bar locking system and prohibits the tampering of a locked door from both sides of the door. Thus, if a burglar should gain entry by breaking a window, the burglar's only recourse to fleeing would be through the window, thus encumbering and retarding the burglar's actions and limiting what can be taken from the premises. It is the object of this invention to provide a device which is small, lightweight, attractive, easy to manufacture and install. The present invention is designed with the minimum amount of material which allows simple manufacturing and effortless assembly. This locking device can be installed in many ways: horizontally, vertically, within or on the door, at any location. The installer is not limited to the type of door he can choose from when installing such a device. Thus, securing a door can be achieved with the minimum amount of cost and time. It is the object of this invention to allow the key locking cylinder to be easily replaced, whereby the owner of the premises can choose from a variety of cylinders ranging from simple, inexpensive mechanisms to complex and expensive ones depending of the required security. Specification A locking device for use on any door to provide security against unlawful or unauthorized entry. The unit consists of a box which houses an actuator mechanism which retracts or advances a pair of toothed locking bars which travel along a common center gear. The rotation of the gear is controlled by a lock cylinder which turns with a key. Each locking bar within the housing is attached to a longer bar, exterior to the housing, which enters a receiver at the door's frame. The lengths of the additional bars vary depending on the size of the door; and the location and orientation of the housing. For clarification purposes, the front of the door will represent the side which is located outside the premises, while the back of the door will represent the side which is located inside the premises. The present invention relates to an improved double bar lock system as described herein with reference to the accompanying drawings which:
