An enteral nutritional product and method of treatment for a person having ulcerative colitis contains in combination (a) an oil blend which contains eicosapentaenoic acid (20:5n3) and/or docosahexaenoic acid (22:6n3), and (b) a source of indigestible carbohydrate which is metabolized to short chain fatty acids by microorganisms present in the human colon. Preferably the nutritional product also contains one or more nutrients which act as antioxidants.
L'invention se rapporte à un produit nutritif entéral et à un procédé de traitement s'appliquant à une personne souffrant de rectocolite hémorragique. Ce produit contient en combinaison (a) un mélange d'huiles qui renferme de l'acide eicosapentaénoïque (20:5n3) et/ou de l'acide docosahexaénoïque (22:6n3), et (b) une source de glucides indigestes qui est métabolisée en acides gras à chaînes courtes par micro-organismes présents dans le côlon humain. Le produit nutritif contient de préférence également un ou plusieurs nutriments qui agissent comme anti-oxydants.
