An air stabilization system employing two parallel, opposite-facing Coanda nozzles, with each nozzle exhausting gas at opposite directions, subjects a moving flexible web to opposing forces effective to create local tension within the web. Each nozzle includes an elongated slot that is perpendicular to the path of the moving web. The nozzles serve as separate points along the machine direction for controlling the height of the web. The operative surface with the nozzles can exhibit a flush surface. The nozzles can be formed on elevated structures on the operative surface. The operative surface can be covered with a transparent substrate to minimize shape distortions on the moving web and to prevent debris from collecting around the sensor. By modulating the velocities of gases exiting the nozzles, the shape of the web can be manipulated to present a planar contour. The air stabilization system can be incorporated into a caliper scanner.
L'invention concerne un système pneumatique de stabilisation utilisant deux buses à effet Coanda, chaque buse projetant du gaz dans des directions opposées, qui soumet une bande flexible en mouvement à des forces opposées de nature à créer une tension locale dans la bande. Chaque buse comprend une fente allongée qui est perpendiculaire au trajet de la bande en mouvement. Les buses servent de points séparés, le long de la direction de la machine, afin de commander la hauteur de la bande. La surface de travail avec les buses peut présenter une surface plane. Les buses peuvent être formées sur des structures surélevées placées sur la surface de travail. La surface de travail peut être couverte d'un substrat transparent pour minimiser les distorsions de formes sur la bande en mouvement et pour éviter que des débris ne s'accumulent autour du capteur. En modulant les vitesses des gaz sortant des buses, la forme de la bande peut être manipulée afin d'obtenir un contour plan. Le système pneumatique de stabilisation peut être incorporé à un dispositif de mesure de l'épaisseur.
