Method and apparatus for effecting handoff in a system supporting both wireless and packet date service communications. In one embodiment, the serving network provides information to the target network sufficient to establish the Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) connections for handoff. In an alternate embodiment, the serving network and the target network do not share capabilities with respect to concurrent multiple service instances. When the serving network knows the status of the target network, the serving network takes responsibility for the handoff.
La présente invention concerne un procédé et un appareil permettant d'effectuer le transfert dans un système acceptant des communications sans fil et du service par paquets de données. Dans une forme de réalisation, le réseau de service envoie au réseau cible, des informations suffisantes pour établir les connexions de protocole point à point (PPP) nécessaires au transfert. Dans une autre forme de réalisation, le réseau de service et le réseau cible ne partagent pas de capacités relativement à des instances à services multiples concurrentes. Lorsque le réseau de service connaît l'état du réseau cible, le réseau de service prend la responsabilité du transfert.
