A method and apparatus for regenerating acidified perchloroethylene. The perchloroethylene may be passed into contact with an anionic exchange resin for removing substantially all of the acidified compounds, typical of which are fatty acids. A further treatment is disclosed for removing dyes and related compounds. The treatment involves passing the treated perchloroethylene through a sorbent resin for subsequent removal of the dye. The apparatus is simple and affords the regeneration of the perchloroethylene to a new quality for multiple uses after a deacidification. The result is a more environmentally friendly method of handling the perchloroethylene and there is a substantial reduction in the amount of wasted perchloroethylene which would otherwise have to be delicately handled due to environmental concerns.
