Compounds which are specific or selective agonists of RAR.alpha. receptors in preference over RAR.beta. and RAR.gamma. recep-tors, and particularly compounds of the formula (I) where R is a H, lower alkyl of 1 to 6 carbons, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, are useful for treating a malignant disease or condition in a mammal. In treatment of solid tumors the compound exhibit syn-ergistic antiproliferative effect with human recombinant interferon.

L'invention concerne des composés se présentant sous la forme d'agonistes spécifiques ou sélectifs des récepteurs RAR alpha , par préférence aux récepteurs RAR beta et RAR gamma , et notamment des composés de formule (I), dans laquelle R est H, alkyle inférieur de 1 à 6 atomes de carbone, ou un sel pharmaceutiquement acceptable. Ces composés sont utiles pour traiter une affection maligne chez un mammifère. Dans le traitement de tumeurs solides, lesdits composés présentent une activité anti-proliférative synergique avec un interféron recombinant humain.
