A base for a prop post includes a base plate having a sleeve extending upwardly therefrom. The sleeve is cylindrical and has a vertical pair of slots formed in diametrically opposed portions of the side walls thereof. A connecting piece for connection to the outermost end of a prop has a cylindrical body dimensioned to fit in or over the sleeve on the base. The cylindrical body has a pair of vertical slots formed in diametrically opposed portions of the side walls thereof, alignable with the slots on the sleeve on the base. The slots on the sleeve and the connecting piece have top ends and bottom ends, and bear dimensioned and configured such that when said connecting piece is fully inserted on or in the sleeve, the top ends of the slots in the connecting piece are below the top ends of the slots in the sleeve, and the bottom ends of the slots in the connecting piece are below the bottom ends of the slots in the sleeve. A wedge member is insertable through the aligned slots to lift the connecting piece relative to the base when fully inserted.
