A fishing apparatus usable with a fishing line, the fishing apparatus comprising: a support element; a substantially elongated fishing pole, the fishing pole defining substantially opposed pole proximal and distal ends, the fishing pole also defining fishing line guiding means for guiding the fishing line therealong, the fishing pole being pivotally mounted to the support element at a pole mounting location intermediate the pole proximal and distal ends so as to be movable between a fishing position and a catching position, an angle between the support element and a portion of the fishing pole extending between the pole proximal end and the pole mounting location being smaller in the fishing position than in the catching position; the fishing pole including a line reel for winding up the fishing line, the line reel being mounted to the fishing pole substantially adjacent the pole proximal end; and a counterweight movable along the fishing pole between a proximalmost position and a distalmost position, the counterweight being closer to the pole proximal end in the proximalmost position than in the distalmost position; the fishing pole defining a pole centre of gravity.
