Methods and apparatus are described for ensuring that programs comprising at least one of video, audio, and data that are requested by a customer from a service provider (SP) (110) via an interactive information services system (10), which transmits the requested programs in program bearing packets to a set top unit (STU) (90) associated with the customer (130), are accessible by only authorized customers (130). The apparatus is positioned between the SP (110) and the STU (90) and comprises: means for receiving the program bearing packets in a first network protocol from a first data link (40) and removing the packets from the first network protocol; means for adding conditional access to the program bearing packets; and, means for re-encapsulating the program bearing bpackets in a second network protocol and outputting the program bearing packets over a second data link (50). Methods and apparatus for applying conditional access are described that comprise encrypting selected program bearing packets with a first key; encrypting the first key with a second key; and, encrypting the second key according to a public-key encryption algorithm using a public key corresponding to a private key stored within the STU (90) associated with the customer (130).
Cette invention concerne des procédés et un dispositif permettant à des clients autorisés seulement d'accéder à des programmes comportant au moins un élément vidéo, un élément audio ou des données requises par un client auprès d'un fournisseur de service (SP) (110) par l'intermédiaire d'un système de services d'informations interactif (10), qui transmet les programmes requis sous forme de paquets porteurs de programmes vers une unité de raccordement (STU) (90) associée audit client (130). Ledit appareil, qui est positionné entre le fournisseur de service (110) et l'unité de raccordement (90), comporte un organe conçu pour recevoir des paquets porteurs de programme selon un premier protocole de réseau à partir d'une première liaison de données (40) et pour extraire les paquets du premier protocole de réseau, un organe conçu pour ajouter l'accès conditionnel aux paquets porteurs de programme et un organe conçu pour ré-encapsuler les paquets porteurs de programme selon un second protocole de réseau et pour ré-emettre les paquets porteurs de programme sur une seconde liaison de données (50). L'invention concerne des procédés de mise en application de l'accès conditionnel qui consistent à chiffrer les paquets porteurs du programme sélectionné avec une première clé, à chiffrer la première clé avec une seconde clé et à chiffrer la seconde clé selon un algorithme de chiffrement à clé publique, ladite clé publique utilisée par cet algorithme correspondant à une clé privée stockée à l'intérieur de l'unité de raccordement (90) associée au client (130).
