th ABSTRACT The present invention provides an apparatus and method for accurately controling the amount of NH3 to be applied to a field by measuring the flow rate when the NH3 is as close to liquid or single phase as it will ever be during flow without condensing or cooling the NH3. The system includes a vehicle having a control station The control station includes a tachometer, a throttle for adjusting the velocity of the vehicle and a control panel. The control panel includes a toggle switch for adjusting the opening or closing of a valve in the flow line a regulate the flow through the system and a flow rate display. The vehicle transports a tank containing liquid NH3 and a tool bar for distributing the NH3 to the soil. A flow meter is mounted in the flow path after the nurse tank withdrawal valve but before any other valving or disconnect couplings that would cause substantial flashing of the product. After flow through the flow meter the NH3 is conduced soil through a series of hoses, fitting, a distributor, and tubing The flow meter transmits a signal converted to a flow reading displayed on the control panel. The farmer is able to view and control the rate of application from the cab with accuracy of 99%.
