A method and plant for burning sludge or filter cakes during the cement clinker manufacture where the cement is manufactured in known manner by the cement raw meal being preheated, calcined and burned into clinker with subsequent cooling of the clinker and where the sludge is dried and finely divided prior to burning. In connection with this method a drying method is indicated by means of which the drying gas volume through the drier unit is substantially reduced. This is done by feeding hot raw meal from either the preheater or a separating cyclone installed in connection with the calciner to the drier unit - which may be a drier crusher. In principle, there is no upper limit to the water content in the sludge which may be used for the process, and applicable types of sludge include for example sewage sludge, bleaching earth, paper sludge, fibre rejects, combustible chemical residues, e.g. waste derived from the manufacture of nylons and pesticides, drill sludge resulting from oil exploration and similar types.

Un procédé et une installation permettent de brûler des boues ou des gâteaux de filtres pendant la fabrication de clinker de ciment. On fabrique le ciment de façon classique en préchauffant, calcinant et brûlant la farine crue de ciment pour la transformer en clinker, lequel est alors refroidi, la boue étant séchée et divisée en particules fixes avant combustion. En liaison avec ce procédé, on en décrit un autre, pour le séchage qui permet de réduire nettement le volume de gaz de séchage passant par le secteur. Il consiste à envoyer la farine crue chaude depuis le préchauffeur, ou un cyclone séparateur qui accompagne le four à calciner, vers le sécheur, qui peut être un sécheur-broyeur. Il n'existe en principe pas de limite supérieure à la teneur en eau des boues utilisables avec ce procédé, lesquelles incluent de boues de curage, terres décolorantes, boues de papier, déchets de fibres, résidus chimiques combustibles, par exemple des déchets provenant de la fabrication de nylons et de pesticides ou des boues de forage résultant de la recherche de pétrole, etc.
