Described herein are inventions in the field of genetic engineering of plants, including isolated nucleic acid molecules encoding digalactosyl diacylglycerol synthase 1-like (DGD1-like) polypeptides to improve agronomic, horticultural and quality traits. This invention relates generally to nucleic acid sequences encoding proteins that are related to the presence of seed storage compounds in plants. More specifically, the present invention relates to DGD1-like nucleic acid sequences encoding sugar and lipid metabolism regulator proteins and the use of these sequences in transgenic plants. The invention further relates to methods of applying these novel plant polypeptides to the identification and stimulation of plant growth and/or to the increase of yield and/or composition of seed storage compounds.

L'invention concerne le domaine du génie génétique des plantes, notamment des molécules isolées d'acide nucléique codant pour des polypeptides du type DGD1 (digalactosyl diacylglycérol synthase 1) afin d'améliorer les propriétés agronomiques, horticoles et qualitatives des plantes. D'une manière générale, l'invention concerne des séquences d'acide nucléique codant pour des protéines qui sont associées à la présence de composés d'entreposage de semences dans des plantes. D'une manière plus spécifique, l'invention concerne des séquences d'acide nucléique du type DGD1 codant pour les protéines régulatrices du métabolisme des glucides et des lipides et l'utilisation de ces séquences sur les plantes transgéniques. L'invention concerne également de nouvelles méthodes permettant d'appliquer ces nouveaux polypeptides végétaux à l'identification et à la stimulation de la croissance des plantes et/ou à l'augmentation du rendement et/ou à la composition de composés d'entreposage de semences.
