A cDNA encoding a plant sucrose-binding protein (SBP) is provided, together with modified SBPs having enhanced sucrose uptake activity in a yeast assay system. Nucleic acid vectors, transgenic cells and transgenic plants having modified sucrose uptake activity are also provided. The invention also relates to promoter sequences useful for controlling expression of transgenes in plants, including SBP transgenes.

L'invention concerne un ADNc codant pour une protéine fixatrice de sucrose (SBP) d'origine végétale, ainsi que des SBP modifiées présentant une activité accrue de fixation au sucrose dans un système d'essai de levure. L'invention concerne également des vecteurs d'acides nucléiques, des cellules transgéniques et des plantes transgéniques présentant une activité modifiée de fixation de sucrose. L'invention a également trait à des séquences de promoteur utiles pour commander l'expression de transgènes dans des plantes, dont des transgènes de SBP.
