Case 3042 CONDUCTION SENSOR SYSTEM FOR MULTIPLE SCR BRIDGES ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A multiple bridge system for providing DC power from a three phase AC power line. Each bridge in the system has six legs arranged in pairs of legs. Each leg has at least one SCR having a gate electrode, and each pair has the SCRs in series across a positive and a negative bus which provides the DC output. The common point between each pair of legs is connected by a respective first, second and third conductor to a respective conductor in the power line. A computer has means for providing gating signals to each gate electrode at an appropriate time and for temporarily storing information relating to the gating signals. A sensor on each of the first, second and third conductors provides a signal representing current flow in the respective conductor. The computer samples the signals from the sensors at a predetermined time when each leg should be conducting current according to the information stored relating to the gating signals, and if there is no indication of current flow in a leg for at least two consecutive times when there should be, the computer provides an alarm signal and may reduce the output. The operation of the bridge system continues until such time as two corresponding legs in two bridges have failed.
