ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A fire retardant polymeric composition comprising a polymer or copolymer of an unsaturated hydrocarbon and a Diels Alder adduct of a halogenated cyclopentadiene and bicyclononadiene. The fire retardance of the materials can be further enhanced by the incorp- oration therein of a metallic compound, particularly a compound of antimony, arsenic or bismuth. A preferred metallic compound is antimony oxide. The fire retardance is demonstrated by the fire retardant efficiency and lower after glow in the compositions; the compositions also have improved heat deflection properties and tensile and flexural properties as compared with similar polymer compositions containing known fire retardant Diels-Alder adducts.
