A dual-compartment sealed package contains, in a main compartment, a ready-to-eat food portion, and contains in an adjoining auxiliary compartment a surface-sanitizing liquid. The compartments are secured together by a surrounding rip strip or other effective closure means, enabling opening of the auxiliary compartment and access to its contents, as well as exposing an interior wall openable for access to the main compartment. The auxiliary compartment contains the sanitizing liquid, which is applicable to the surface of the food portion after opening of its compartment and whatever exposure to an unsanitary external environment may occur before the food portion is actually eaten. The sanitizing liquid is preferably a salt-containing ethanolic solution, and preferably contained in a squeeze bottle from which it is applicable by spraying onto the food portion, with or without use of optionally included applicator means.
