To provide an engine which is suitable for mounting in a small-sized planing boat, which can also simultaneously lower the center of the gravity of the boat and which enables securing a degree of freedom of arranging accessories. Balancers 114L and 114R are arranged on the left and on the right of a crankshaft 21 on a parting face D of an engine 20 mounted in the body of a small-sized planing boat 10 surrounded by a hull 14 and a deck 15, and a starter motor 120 and an idle gear 116 of one balancer 1148 are arranged on the side reverse to the starter motor with the crankshaft 21 between them. The idle gear 116 is arranged on the side reverse to the starter motor 120 with a cylinder between them. An oil tank is provided at the front of the engine and oil supply passages 60j and 60k to balancer supporting parts are formed in its case 60.
