The present invention relates to bis-N-alkyl polyether, bis-N-alkenyl polyether, bis-N-cycloalkyl polyether, bis-N-aryl polyether bis-beta or alpha-imino acids surfactants of the formula: (see above formula) or salts thereof, and a process for producing them. Also described is the use of these surfactants as multifunctional corrosion inhibitors, which protect and prevent corrosion of i) ferrous metals exposed to acidic, basic and neutral conditions when transporting or storing crude oil and liquid fuels, or ii) equipment and pipes used in cooling systems in petroleum and petrochemical industries.
