A system (10) that allows a personal computer (14) to remotely control the operation of a video cassette recorder (16). The system includes a radio frequency (RF) transmitter (28) connected to a personal computer (14). The personal computer (14) is programmed to generate a first VCR control signal that is transmitted by the RF transmitter (28) to a RF receiver (30) located within a transceiver base unit (32). The transceiver base unit (32) transmits a second VCR control signal, using an infrared transmitter (34), to the VCR in response to the first VCR control signal. The VCR control signals include commands to record, stop, play, etc. the video cassette recorder. The first VCR control signal can be transmitted in response to a control data signal that is inserted into the vertical blanking interval of a publicly broadcasted video signal that is received and decoded by the computer (14). The control data signal may contain program information which is used to trigger the transmission of the first VCR control signal.
La présente invention concerne un système (10) permettant à un ordinateur domestique (14) de télécommander le fonctionnement d'un magnétoscope à cassettes (16). Le système comporte un émetteur (28) hertzien (HF) connecté à l'ordinateur domestique (14). L'ordinateur domestique (14) est programmé de façon à générer un premier signal de commande de magnétoscope, lequel signal est émis par l'émetteur HF (28) à destination d'un récepteur HF (30) situé dans une unité de base émetteur-récepteur (32). L'unité de base émetteur-récepteur (32) émet un second signal de commande de magnétoscope en utilisant un émetteur infrarouge (34), à destination du magnétoscope en réaction au premier signal de commande de magnétoscope. Les signaux de commande de magnétoscope comportent notamment des commandes d'enregistrement, d'arrêt, et de reproduction par le magnétoscope. Le premier signal de commande de magnétoscope peut être émis en réaction à un signal à données de commande intercalé dans l'intervalle de suppression de trame du signal vidéo public d'émission que l'ordinateur (14) reçoit et décode. Ce signal à données de commande peut contenir des informations se rapportant à une émission, lesquelles informations servent à déclencher l'émission du premier signal de commande de magnétoscope.
