An optical passband filter having a frequency transition that is several of orders or magnitude narrower than prior optical filters includes two frequency routing devices. The first frequency routing device has one input for receiving the input signal and at least N outputs, where N corresponds to the number of frequencies that compose the input signal. The N outputs of the first frequency routing device are each coupled to inputs of a second frequency routing device. The outputs of the second frequency device each correspond to one of the selected output frequency bands into which the input signal is to be divided. A multiplexed input signal containing several different frequency channels is divided into bands that are each directed to respective outputs of the second frequency routing device. The frequency transition between the various bands may be as small s the frequency resolution between adjacent outputs of the firstfrequency routing device.
L'invention est un filtre passe-bande optique ayant une bande de transition plus étroite de plusieurs ordres de grandeur que celles des filtres optiques actuels. Le filtre de l'invention comprend deux dispositifs d'acheminement de signaux. Le premier est doté d'une entrée servant à recevoir le signal d'entrée, et de N sorties au moins, N étant le nombre des composantes du signal d'entrée. Ces N sorties sont couplées individuellement aux entrées du second dispositif d'acheminement. Les sorties de ce dernier correspondent individuellement à l'une des bandes de fréquences de sortie entre lesquelles le signal d'entrée doit être divisé. Un signal d'entrée multiplex contenant les signaux de plusieurs canaux différents est divisé en bandes de fréquences qui sont affectées aux différentes sorties du second dispositif d'acheminement. La bande de transition entre les diverses bandes peut être aussi étroite que la résolution fréquentielle entre les sorties adjacentes du premier dispositif d'acheminement.
