There is disclosed a composite sock which consists of an inner stretchable fabric envelope, a bag-like barrier component which is liquid water impermeable, and water vapour permeable, and a second or outer stretchable fabric envelope, the inner envelope being attached to the barrier component, the barrier component being attached to the outer envelope, the arrangement being such as to allow circumferential stretching of the composite sock, characterised in that the inner stretchable fabric envelope or the outer stretchable fabric envelope or both is a circular knitted sock, the composite sock has elastic properties such that it can be stretched at least in the X direction to at least 50 % extension.

L'invention concerne une chaussette composite comprenant une enveloppe intérieure en tissu extensible, un élément formant barrière en forme de sac lequel est imperméable a l'eau liquide et perméable à la vapeur d'eau, ainsi qu'une seconde enveloppe ou enveloppe extérieure en tissu extensible, l'enveloppe intérieure étant fixée à l'élément formant barrière, ledit élément formant barrière étant fixé à l'enveloppe extérieure, l'agencement étant tel qu'il permet d'étirer la chaussette composite sur sa circonférence, et il se caractérise en ce que l'enveloppe intérieure en tissu extensible ou l'enveloppe extérieure en tissu extensible, ou bien l'une et l'autre forme une chaussette tricotée circulaire. La chaussette composite présente des propriétés élastiques qui permettent de l'étirer au moins dans une direction X avec un pourcentage d'extension d'au moins 50 %.
